French retailers charging too much for organic produce - consumer group

In France, UFC-Que Choisir claimed the price differential between organic (bio) and non-organic foods in the major supermarkets is preventing organics breaking out of its niche consumer market. It said own-brand organic products were on average 22% more expensive than equivalent brandname non-organic items and 57% more expensive than equivalent own-brand non-organics. Supermarkets surveyed included Leclerc, Auchan, Atac and Carrefour chains.
