Retailers criticised over climate-polluting refrigeration

 

In the UK, Environmental Investigation Agency criticised the Co-operative Group for touting its “green and ethical” credentials while using HCFC refrigerants in half of its depots and recently refitting stores with HFC-based refrigeration instead of more environmentally friendly alternatives. EIA also complained that only 2% of major supermarket retail stores are using HFC-free refrigeration systems.
