Amnesty accuses mining giant of failing to protect PNG community

 

In the UK, Amnesty International published a damning report alleging forced evictions and police brutality around the Porgera gold mine in Papua New Guinea. It claimed Barrick Gold and its joint venture subsidiary failed to intervene to stop the police, though it did not claim the companies supported or were participants in the violence.
