Food firms "misleading" consumers over origin of ingredients

In Belgium, CRIOC called for stricter labelling standards on the origin of food ingredients, saying food manufacturers are taking advantage of vague rules to mislead consumers. It cited Danone’s new range of Belorigine food products, which have a Belgian flag on the packaging and claim to be made in Belgium with Belgian ingredients, although it is unlikely that all the fruit ingredients can be supplied from Belgium. It also criticised Danone for using the name “Liege syrup yoghurt” when Liege syrup constitutes only 2.7% of the contents.
